Silver Comet Trail, Cobb County Access

A favorite among bicycle enthusiasts, this trail is an excellent way to pass several hours or a whole day. It is a perfect biking trail for both beginners and more experienced cyclists, as it is flat, smooth and fast. The trail is 61.5 miles long, beginning at the Mavell Road Trailhead, and ending at the Georgia/Alabama state line near Cedarhead.
The trail is a paved luxury for outdoor enthusiasts, with plenty of bathrooms and water fountains all along the path, as well as plenty of places to lock up your bike if you want to take a short hike to see the creeks and ruins that are scattered throughout the lush landscape.
You can also take long, serene walks along the Silver Comet trail, but be aware that others are biking at high speeds, so be sure to not lose yourself in your beautiful surroundings too much, just in case you have to duck out of the way.
Nantahala Outdoor Center
If you’re looking for a faster-paced adventure, you might head to the Nantahala Outdoor Center at 5450 Interstate North Parkway. Here, you can go tubing, whitewater rafting, or paddleboarding on the famed Chattahoochee River, which is sure to be an invigorating experience for outdoor enthusiasts of all skill levels.
With both lower- and higher-class rapids, traversing the Chattahoochee with Nantahala tours can be a fun experience for the whole family. If you’re headed here, plan to be busy most of the day. Tours are usually over three hours, and you will get wet! So you’ll want to head back to your hotel to clean up before grabbing dinner at one of Smyrna’s great restaurants.
Fox Creek Golf Course and Driving Range
For the avid golfer, there may be no better spot in Smyrna than the Fox Creek Golf Course and Driving Range at 1501 Windy Hill Road SE. It is an enjoyable short course for golfers of all skill levels. Local golfers report that you can play 18 holes in about three hours, as long as the course isn’t too busy. The greens are well-kept and beautiful, if smaller than other courses around the country, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
If you’re staying nearby, you could start the day playing 18 holes and then grab lunch at the famed nearby Opa Creek Village Taverna, an excellent Greek restaurant less than a mile away from the course.
